Picturebooks – trends on the world book market

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the issues of picturebooks and their contemporary global trends. After completing the course a student will be able to define what picturebooks are and develop critical approach to their evaluation, as well as indicating their subgenres. A student would be able to name the most prominent contemporary artists, in addition to mentioning major topics and the worldwide dominant trends. Finally, a student will also be ready to review a selected picturebook independently.

Program content:

  1. Definitions and typology of picturebooks.
  2. The history of the picturebook and its current position.
  3. The picture book market in different countries (eg the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Poland).
  4. Analysis and evaluation of selected picture books.
